The SSE social franchise model
SSE operates as a social franchise. Currently, there are nine network members across the UK as well as in Canada and India. SSE Central’s office is located in London. SSE has been operating for 17 years and we know our model works and generates positive outcomes for social entrepreneurs and their organisations. We started a social franchise model in order to spread our social impact across the globe. We now share our trademark, intellectual property and licensed materials with our network of franchise schools.
What do we look for in our partners?
We work hard to find the right partners to share and develop our model with, and we offer a range of on-going support, best-practice guidance, quality standards and impact evaluation systems to every school so that we continue to improve and innovate year on year. The same characteristics that we seek in our students are those that we seek in our franchise partners. Specifically, we look for individuals and organisations who possess an entrepreneurial outlook and who:
- believe that individuals are the catalyst for change
- are committed to the idea of creating and sustaining positive social change through social entrepreneurship
- are well networked in their community – with links to the communities-in-need, government, business, funders and potential SSE students
- are excited and committed to being a part of the SSE global network of franchise partners
Does SSE have plans to open in more locations?
Not right now. We launched our newest school SSE India at the beginning of 2016 and are currently busy supporting the team to deliver their first Start Up programme for social entrepreneurs in Delhi. We are really keen to learn to complete the first programme and from this experience, before replicating in any other areas.
There is no doubt that in the future – most likely 2017 – we will be looking to grow our impact and reach into new communities so please get in touch if you’d like to have an informal chat about how our social franchise model works, contact details below.
How can I get an SSE where I live?
We are not currently taking applications to open any new international schools.
SSE remains a relatively small organisation and therefore, we plan additional international growth carefully and sparingly in order that we can continue to serve and strengthen our existing network of 9 UK schools and 2 international schools.
We will look for new opportunities once we are confident that SSE India is established and effective. This is likely to be sometime in 2017.
